Quimper
Quimper stretches along the banks of the river Odet, and is the ancient capital of la Cornouaille, the name given to this region by the ancient Celts who fled here from Cornwall. There are plenty of references to King Arthur and his knights which is as much part of folklore here as in Britain.
Quimper has a famous cathedral with distinctive twin spires, the building of which started in 1239. Next door is the Breton Museum with the Musée des Beaux Arts is opposite. Generally there is a lot to see around the cathedral.
Quimper’s particular fame is its pottery: you can vist the H.B. Henriot workshops (except at weekends) which is run by an American couple and there is, of course, a shop. Behind the workshops is the pottery museum, which exhibits three and a half centuries of the art.
