Off the coast from Lorient lies the Ile de Groix, 45 minutes by boat. Eight kilometres long by three km wide, it is small enough to explore by bike. Port Tudy is the main port and was once a centre of tunny fishing.

The Ecomusée de Groix charts life on the island and its indomitable inhabitants. On the east coast sheltered from the Atlantic winds, is the Grands-Sables beach, a vast convex-shaped stretch of sand.
